Now that the cold, wet weather is upon us, have you stepped in a mud puddle yet? Or walked through the pumpkin patch without your rain boots on? Wet and cold feet are no fun, are they?

Now, imagine if you couldn't change (or wash) your socks. Not a cozy picture is it?

There are many in our community and other communities that have experienced natural disasters that are in need of simple basic supplies...like clean and dry socks. There are two main reasons socks are among the most valuable piece of clothing to people without permanent housing. For one, feet work overtime when there’s no cozy home (and laundry room) to return to each night. The other reason is that socks and underwear aren’t often donated or, when they are, the goods can’t be sanitized and put to use.

Savior Socks is on a mission to provide that need! Tammy Newbill began the 501(c)(3) non-profit in November of 2016. She has organized four local fundraising events over the past year collecting donations and distributing over 35,000 pairs of socks to date. Tammy has set a new goal a “Million Sock March”.

Savior Socks is raising "ONE MILLION PAIRS" of socks for the local communities and also the communities that have experienced natural disasters. A pair of socks is a small gift but a large gesture that can help a person in need to have some comfort in their difficult situations.

How did Savior Socks come about?

Like many people I was laid off of my job due to employee cutbacks. I then decided that it was crucial for me to acquire technical skills that would move me forward towards my future goals. I signed up for a workers retraining program at Clark College and chose business marketing; it seemed like a good fit because I knew that I wanted to work for a nonprofit.

While going to Clark College I enrolled in a nonprofit class that was taught by Nathan Webster. He also has a nonprofit called Dream Big. Nathan instructed our class to come up with an idea for a nonprofit if we had not already started one. I struggled with this task unsure of what was needed in our community.

One of my sons had been homeless, and he is the one that came up with the idea of Savior Socks. He knew that I was searching for something that would help people in need. He told me that when he was homeless many people had severe foot problems, and they would have to go to the emergency room to be treated; he was one of those people. I decided then and there what my purpose would be. I was going to provide new socks to people in need, so they would not have to suffer with debilitating foot issues. The name of Savior Socks came about through my second son. He had a business that was called Save Your Construction. I am a Christian woman and was inspired to change the Save Your to Savior which inspired the name Savior Socks.

Savior Socks has started a campaign to raise ONE MILLION PAIRS of socks. These socks will help our local communities and the communities that have experienced natural disasters. We are a nonprofit organization founded in 2016 and have provided over thirty five thousand pairs of socks from Clark County to Pacific County.
